Akiva and Bae

Akiva ate about 5 ounces of cooked ground hamburger today.  His cod liver oil came and he ate his dose of that as well.  I will try feeding him again this evening and see if he wants to eat something.  He will get another dose of antibiotics tonight. He got a bag of dried salmon treats today, he likes them very much and I think he would have eaten as many as I gave him.

We stopped out at the vet this afternoon and checked his weight.  He gained about 1.5 pounds in the past 6 days, which is great because he was down almost a pound from the 1st to the 11th.  We were quite concerned with his weight loss.  He still has a reduced / selective appetite, but at least it looks like I am able to maintain his weight.

He still walks about the same as yesterday, not really any noticeable change, while he walks he sways his head left and right more than he used to, this maybe due to one of his legs being in pain as he walks.  I can tell at times when he is lying around that he is uncomfortable and he changes position now more than he normally does.

We will see tomorrow if we notice any change from the higher dose of the antibiotics.  I wonder if he was just being picky with his food for some other reason and he still has an injury?  If that is the case, we would have expected him to have more of a response to the NSAID.

He continues to look stable day to day, with a normal breathing rate, and other normal vital signs.  We have not seen any decline since the initial onset 18 days ago.  We have no reason to believe that it will get any worse, in fact with many conditions, you would have expected to see it get worse in that time, not stay stable.  So it is a good sign that he has not gotten any worse.  I actually think he was walking better today than he did last Thursday when he was at the vet.  He swayed back and forth with his head / body more than before, but he was not walking down on his hocks like he did before, so I do think that shows an improvement in his walking.

Update: 10:49 P.M. Akiva had his doxy pill a little after 10, right about 12 hours apart from the morning dose.  Akiva refused the raw turkey that was offered, but ate about 5 ounces of cooked beef (they were both cold when presented to him, but he had no problems consuming the cold beef.  Putting him at about 10 ounces of beef today, plus his 2 coconut macaroons (for pills) and numerous pieces of dehydrated salmon.

I’ve also noticed that Akiva is keeping his legs straighter again when he walks, last week, he was kind of falling down towards his hocks, but his legs themselves look more like they are in the proper position.
