One of my bonsai projects: a dawn redwood planting. I grouped several slender trunks together in a shallow tray for a little forest, or grove, effect. The dawn redwood has soft, feathery foliage and reddish bark, and it turns nice colors in the fall before dropping its needles for winter. A fun, fast-growing tree to work with.
