Six Years with SimpleHost.com: An Honest Look at Our Web Hosting

We have had an account setup with a hosting company called SimpleHost for about 6 years now. Having been in the business of providing hosting and Internet access back in the late 90’s, $12 a month for hosting seems very inexpensive. My expectations were not extremely high for this price, however, I do recognize that the entire hosting industry has dramatically changed over the past 10 years, and some people only pay a couple dollars a month for hosting.

I did have a hosting account for one of our sites at a much more expensive ISP, which I recently moved to SimpleHost. Our requirements for the site just were not that high. Our web sites currently amount to around 1GB of traffic per day, which is far more traffic than most small sites or Blogs get, but is still not large in the scheme of things. When I transferred the site over, I had several questions that came up, and I submitted support tickets for assistance. In the past, I had not often needed support, and only submitted a ticket perhaps once or twice per year. I’ve submitted about 5 tickets in the past month or so. They have had a lightning fast response time on nearly all of the tickets I submitted to their support. Meaning I have had an answer to most questions within several minutes, I am really impressed they are so on top of their support services.

I monitor the uptime on our sites with a third party service. I generally see one or two short outages a month, generally totaling less than 30-60 minutes of downtime. This puts them clost to 99.9% uptime – which is considered excellent. When I had an account on a very large, high-end cloud provider for web hosting, the uptime I had there was very similar to what I get on SimpleHost.
