Spring Wildflowers at High Cliff State Park — Trilliums in Bloom on May 22, 2016

Another trip out to High Cliff State Park, this time on May 22nd, and the spring wildflowers were putting on a show. High Cliff sits on the northeast shore of Lake Winnebago, and the wooded trails along the bluff are one of our favorite places to wander this time of year.

The trilliums were blooming in big patches across the forest floor — some pure white, others already fading to the soft pink they turn as they age. The new red maple growth was glowing in the sun, and Karen found a stick shelter someone had built along the trail and couldn’t resist crawling in to check it out.

More from High Cliff: the Red Bird statue at sunset and a spring evening on the bluffs.

Have you been there? I'd love to hear your favorite spot.
