Supporting Local Farmers at the Market — September 24, 2016

Support your local farmers. This was a Saturday morning in late September at the Future Neenah Farmers Market, down in Shattuck Park in the middle of downtown Neenah. Peak fall market time, and the vendors had it all out.

There were big heads of cauliflower, cabbage and greens, watermelons, crates of apples and late-season tomatoes, and pumpkins in every color laid out in neat rows on a white tarp. One of the stands even had their Australian Shepherd hanging out next to the table, which is always a good sign in my book.

The stand I always make a point to stop at is Jim’s Produce. Jim is a local grower I have known for a while. He grows his produce in Appleton and sells it here at the Neenah market on Saturdays, along with his own stand on Wisconsin Avenue in Appleton.

The Future Neenah Farmers Market runs on Saturday mornings through the summer and into the fall. If you want to plan a trip, you can check the current season schedule on the Future Neenah website. It is well worth a Saturday morning. If you are in the area, the Menasha market is a good one too.

Have you been there? I'd love to hear your favorite spot.
