AKC Shih Tzu Dog Show – Oshkosh, WI 5/20/2023
We spent the day at the AKC dog show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on May 20th, 2023 — running from about 10:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon, with a club raffle and prizes throughout the day.
If you’ve only ever seen a dog show on TV, going in person is a real treat. So much of the day happens before the dogs ever step into the ring — the grooming area is a world of its own, with handlers blow-drying, brushing, and fussing over every inch of those long, flowing show coats until they shine. It takes hours of patient work to get a Shih Tzu looking that good.
Then comes the ring, where each handler stacks and presents their dog for the judge, hoping to catch that perfect profile. It’s equal parts grooming skill, training, and showmanship, and it’s a lot of fun to watch. Enjoy the photos and the video below.
