Goat Climb: A New Little Climbing Game

I made a new game. It is called Goat Climb, and it does exactly what the name says: you steer a little mountain goat up an endless run of cliffs, hopping from one ledge to the next. Real mountain goats climb near-vertical rock like it is nothing, so a goat felt like the right animal for a game about going up and not looking down.

The goat bounces on its own. Your only job is to steer. Use the arrow keys or A and D on a computer, or tap the left and right side of the screen on your phone. Land on a ledge and you spring right back up. Miss it, and it is a long way down. Run off one side of the screen and you come out the other, so you can wrap around to catch a ledge you would otherwise miss.

There are a few things to chase on the way up. Little flowers to grab for bonus points. Glowing spring boulders that fling you way higher than a normal hop. And my favorite part: the sky changes the higher you get. You start out in a warm golden afternoon, climb up through a sunset, and end up in a deep purple night full of fireflies, with the moon coming up over the mountains. The ledges go from grassy and green down low to snow-capped near the top.

Down near the bottom, in the golden afternoon.

It gets harder the higher you go. The ledges get narrower, some of them slide back and forth, and a few crumble the moment you touch them. Your score is simply how high you climbed, measured in meters, and the game remembers your best.

Keep climbing and the afternoon turns into a firefly night.

It runs right in your browser, on your phone or your computer. Nothing to download, nothing to install, and no ads. Turn your sound on if you can. There is a soft breeze running underneath the whole time, and a happy little noise when the goat hits a spring.

If you like it, I have a whole shelf of these now. You can find the rest of them over on the games page. I would tell you my high score, but you are just going to beat it, and then I will have to go climb higher.

Gave it a try? Tell me what you think.
