Where in the Fox Cities? A New Guessing Game From My Own Photos

I take a lot of photos around the Fox Valley. Parks and the lakefront, the river when the water is low, downtown Appleton at night, a deer at the 1000 Islands center that held still just long enough. I have been posting them here for years. This week I turned them into a game.

Where in the Fox Cities? works the way it sounds. I show you one of my photos, and you guess where I took it. Most of the time you drop a pin on a map and score by how close you land. For the indoor shots, like the old staircase at the Hearthstone or the turquoise dining room at Sangria’s, you pick the place from a short list instead.

Everything in it is real, and every photo is mine

There are no stock photos here and nothing made up. In a given round you might end up at High Cliff State Park, the Kimberly Point lighthouse in Neenah, Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve, Heesakker Park in Little Chute, Asylum Point in Oshkosh, or Houdini Plaza in downtown Appleton during the Light the Night Market. There are twelve locations to start. I will keep adding more as I get out and shoot, so it should grow over time.

How to play

  • Look at the photo.
  • Drop a pin where you think it was taken, or pick the place from the list.
  • Submit, and see how close you were and how many points you earned.
  • Five rounds make a game. Play again for a fresh set.

It is free, there are no ads, and it plays fine on a phone or a computer. If you have lived here a while, I think you will do well. If you are newer to the area, it is a nice way to find a few spots worth visiting.

Give it a try and tell me how you score. If you land right on the pin, you probably know the Fox Valley better than I do.

What do you think? I'd love to hear from you.
