Ashwood, Inc.

“We don't sell printing — we help companies with their visual communications.”

A small printing, design & marketing company on the corner in Menasha, Wisconsin. Founded in 2003 by Jamie Dolan, home of Amazing Postcards and the legendary 300% Guarantee. Wound down by 2005 — and now carefully reassembled, page by page, from the Wayback Machine and a box of old photographs.

The Story

A service-first print shop in the Fox Valley

Ashwood, Inc. opened its doors in 2003 with a simple, almost stubborn idea: that most businesses weren't looking for the cheapest printer — they were looking for one that would actually pick up the phone. The company offered offset and digital printing, copies, graphic design, bulk mailing, and direct-mail marketing, all under one roof, with a promise to fix anything that wasn't right.

Letter from the President

“We are a relationship-based company that focuses on our customer's business. We offer a different approach to printing — instead of being ‘just another sales person’, we are a ‘problem solver.’ Quality and service may be part of what keeps the customer with Ashwood, Inc., but the way we solve problems is really what sets us apart from the crowd.”
— Jamie Dolan, President, Ashwood, Inc.

The shop on 3rd Street

The website survived in the archive. The place survived in photographs — the storefront, the presses, the whiteboard where the products were dreamed up, and the dog who supervised all of it. You'll even find the crew — Becky, Karen and Andy — and a couple of grainy old videos of Akiva (Nokia and all) down in the gallery.

The mascot — Akiva

No tour of Ashwood is complete without Akiva, the shop dog — who handled quality control from inside a U.S. Postal Service tub on the hand truck, and kept watch over the place from the top of the stairs. (A young Vasco may turn up in a frame or two as well.)

In the news

December 5, 2003

Ashwood issued a press release the day the U.S. Postal Service authorized oversized, custom-shaped postcards: “New ‘Super-Sized’ Post Card Format Gives Your Business a Whole New Way to Get Noticed… Courtesy of the US Mail!” Mail a card shaped like your product for about a dollar.

The reconstruction

Saved from the Wayback Machine

Every page here was recovered from the Internet Archive — 823 files spanning the main site, Jamie's personal marketing-consultant pages, the sales letters, the press-release PDF, and the Y2WebBuilder storefront. The original Flash splash banner was never crawled — but a box of photographs brought back what the archive couldn't: the place itself.
