Privacy Policy

QUINT is a daily word game published at jamiedolan.com/games/quint/ and operated by Jamie Dolan. This policy explains what information is collected when you play, how it is used, and your rights regarding that information.

1. Information we collect

If you play without an account (the default), no personal information is sent to our servers. Your game progress, guess history, and win streak are stored only in your own browser via localStorage. We cannot see this data.

If you create an account, we collect:

• Display name — the name you provide at signup (shown on leaderboards).
• Email address — used to sign in, to verify your account, to send password reset links, and for the service emails described in section 2. Never displayed publicly.
• Password — stored as a one-way bcrypt hash. We cannot read your password.
• Game statistics — aggregate stats (games played, win rate, current streak, guess distribution) synced from your device so your progress is preserved across devices. We do not store individual guesses.
• Login timestamps — the date and time of your most recent sign-in, for account security purposes.

2. How we use your information

• To authenticate you and maintain your session.
• To save and restore your game statistics across devices.
• To display leaderboards using your display name.
• To send account emails: a welcome message when you sign up, an email-verification link, and a password reset link if you request one.
• To send optional daily reminder emails — only if you opt in (double opt-in), and every reminder includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
• To send occasional service announcements about the game itself — for example a security notice, a service interruption, or a major change to how the game works. These are sent rarely and only when genuinely important to players with accounts.

We do not send marketing or promotional email for other products, and we never share your address. We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell or rent your data to any third party.

3. Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 (property ID G-ZRM65MTJL8) to understand aggregate traffic — how many people play, which pages are visited, and general geographic regions. Google Analytics collects anonymized data including your IP address (truncated), browser type, and pages visited. You can opt out by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See Google's Privacy Policy for details on how Google handles this data.

4. Cookies and session storage

• Session cookie — if you sign in, a temporary session cookie is set so you remain logged in. It expires when you close your browser or sign out.
• localStorage — game state and preferences are stored locally in your browser. This data never leaves your device unless you create an account and choose to sync.
• Google Analytics cookies — set by Google for analytics as described above.

QUINT does not use tracking cookies for advertising or cross-site profiling.

5. Data retention

Account data (name, email, password hash, stats) is retained for as long as your account exists. Password reset tokens expire after one hour and are marked used after a successful reset. If you would like your account and all associated data deleted, contact us and we will remove it within 30 days.

6. Security

Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage — they are never stored in readable form. Our servers run on SiteGround managed hosting with SSL/TLS encryption for all connections. No payment information is ever collected by this site.

7. Children

QUINT is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your rights

• Access — you can view the data we hold by signing into your account.
• Correction — contact us to update your name or email.
• Deletion — contact us to delete your account and all associated data.
• Portability — your stats are visible in-game and can be noted at any time.

9. Third-party links

The game links to other pages on jamiedolan.com. Those pages are governed by the jamiedolan.com privacy policy. QUINT does not link to or embed content from other third-party services beyond Google Analytics.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the updated date at the top of this page will reflect the change. Continued use of QUINT after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
