Akiva has been with me for a long time, and going through the photos from over the years always brings up a lot of good memories. He’s been there for everything — the apartment years, the early blog days, countless walks and car rides and naps on the couch. That photo of young me hugging…
Vasco is a dog we’ve taken a ridiculous number of photos of over the years, and it’s something to see them all in one place. This gallery is a pile of my favorites — the goofy ones, the ones where he looks like he’s up to something, and plenty in between. That shot of him…
Vasco has apparently always had a thing for Tonka trucks. Way back in 2004, when he was just a tiny puppy, I had this old classic metal Tonka dump truck — the kind built to last, clearly well-loved, with that durable painted steel look. He fit perfectly in the back and just sat there like…
Going back through some older photos of Akiva and Vasco from their younger years. These two have been such a big part of my life, and it’s always fun to look back at pictures of them from way back. There’s one of them snuggled up together resting on an orange pallet jack out in the…
It was about 35 out this afternoon, clear and not very windy. Here in Wisconsin it is quite unusual for us not to have a good amount of snow by this time of year. We decided to take advantage of the nice weather and lack of snow. Karen and I headed to High Cliff State…
We picked up a nice Christmas Tree on Black Friday (11/25/2011) from Krueger’s True Value in Neenah, WI (this beloved neighborhood hardware store has since retired and closed — they are truly missed by the Neenah community). We did the same last year. Kruegers has gotten in a ton of very nice trees the past…
Hi; This is my Boy Akiva. He is 8 years old and he goes with me everywhere. During the day he either sits with me or sits in his stroller that is right next to my chair. Akiva and his brother Vasco are my 2 best buddies! He loves moo-tubes as you can see in…
As I post this early on the morning of the 10th, the ground is covered with cold wet slop. About 1 to 2 inches of wet heavy snow fell today. It seemed rather sudden considering how nice of weather we have had. One month ago we had days that were about 80. Tonight is a…
Update (2026): I first wrote this in 2011, and I recently read back through it. The good news is that almost none of it has changed — the core of safe anesthesia care is the same today. Everything here still lines up with the American Animal Hospital Association’s current (2020) Anesthesia and Monitoring Guidelines: pre-anesthetic…
Halloween 2011 was a full house of costumes around here! The whole crew got dressed up, and they were very patient with me and the camera. Akiva as a Chicken Vasco as a Cow Bae as a Unicorn (front) and Hera as a Bumble Bee (back) Our trick-or-treat setup — candy bucket on the table,…
Here’s my boy Vasco on 10/30/2011, caught mid lick-of-the-nose in his red harness. He’s always good for a great expression. He’s an easygoing dog and photographs like a champ. One of the best buddies a person could ask for.
