Prove it

We say your draft never leaves the browser unless you choose to sign in and sync it. Here is how to check that the signed-out tool is fully local, instead of just trusting us.

One deliberate exception while signed out: the optional “Import posts” button in the Voice tab and “Send to WordPress” fetch public posts or push a draft to a site you authenticate against — both only on an explicit click, never your keystrokes. And if you create an account and sign in, the drafts/voice/settings you sync are sent to our server on purpose; that's the whole point of an account. Everything below is about the default, signed-out experience.

Watch the network tab

  1. Open Jamie's Blue Pencil and press F12 (or right-click → Inspect) to open developer tools.
  2. Click the Network tab.
  3. Reload the page once, then write or paste anything you like.
  4. Watch the list. After the page's own files load (HTML, CSS, scripts, word lists), typing produces zero requests. Nothing you write appears in any of them. Click any request and read it yourself.

The stronger proof: pull the plug

  1. Load the page once.
  2. Turn off your Wi-Fi, or in dev tools set Network to Offline.
  3. Everything still works. A tool that uploads your writing cannot do that.

What we do measure

Standard page analytics (the page was opened, roughly how many lint sessions ran). Never any text, never any words, never anything you wrote. The analytics events are listed in the source, which you are also free to read.
