Terms for accounts
You can use Jamie's Blue Pencil with no account at all — and that is the default. Everything stays in your browser and nothing is uploaded. You only need to read this if you choose to sign in so your work syncs across devices.
What an account is for
An account is a convenience. When you sign in, your recent drafts, your voice fingerprint, and your settings are saved to our server so you can pick them up on another device. That is the whole point of it.
This is an editing tool, not a document-storage service
- We keep copies of your recent work for your convenience. We are not a backup service, a vault, or a place to archive things you cannot afford to lose.
- We do not guarantee that your stored work is kept. Keep your own copy of anything that matters — the Export button saves a real file to your computer in one click.
- We are not responsible for lost work. Data can be lost to bugs, outages, mistakes, or cleanup. Use the tool with that understood.
- Each account gets up to 2 MB of storage. These are text drafts, so that is a lot of writing — but it is a limit, and saves that would exceed it are declined.
- To keep storage costs sane, we may delete stored content after about 90 days, and may remove inactive or unverified accounts. Recent work is what we keep.
Your privacy
Signing in is the only time your drafts are sent anywhere, and only the drafts you save. If you never sign in, nothing you write leaves your browser — you can verify that on the Prove it page. We store your email and a securely hashed password to run the account, and nothing more. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from the account menu.
Fair use
Don't abuse the service — no automated bulk storage, no using it as a file host, no attempts to break or overload it. Accounts that do may be removed.
Plain version: it's a free editing tool with a convenient save feature. Keep your own copies, don't treat it as storage, and we'll do our best to keep your recent work around.
