Our Dog of the Day for 3/16/2012 is Charlie, the one-eyed princess who has been through it all and come out the other side.
“Charlie is our one-eyed princess. She had to have her eye surgically removed, as well as her ear canal. She has really persevered. We love her very much.”
Charlie has been through surgeries that would test any dog’s spirit — an eye removed, an ear canal removed — and she has persevered through all of it. That word, persevered, is exactly the right one. She did not just survive; she carried on with the warmth and love that defines her character, and she continues to give her family joy every day. Dogs have a remarkable capacity for moving forward, for accepting whatever their body does and simply continuing to be present and loving and alive in the world. Charlie is a perfect example of that. She is a cream and tan beauty, slightly lopsided maybe, but a princess in every sense that matters. Her family loves her very much, and it shows in every detail of how they talk about her.
