Fall Camping at Presque Isle — Peak Color in the Porcupine Mountains

Karen and I made a trip up to the Presque Isle Campground in the Porcupine Mountains in October 2017, and the fall color was right at its peak. The Presque Isle River runs through some serious gorge country in the Porcupine Mountains, and the cascades are something — wide, powerful waterfalls dropping into dark pools with mist coming off the water. Add the fall foliage and it’s a lot to take in.

We spent time at the different viewpoints along the river trail. Karen had the best spot of the day, right next to the rushing water with golden maple leaves framing the scene. The gallery below covers the range, from the gentler upper cascades to the big main falls. Worth the drive up into the U.P.

Have you been there? I'd love to hear your favorite spot.
